Carrousel District
Mansfield, Ohio
Conceived as a catalyst to revitalization of the downtown Mansfield retail district, the Richland Carrousel Park developed as a public/private partnership of property acquisition, business relocation, selective demolition and new construction. This home of the first hand-carved wooden carrousel in the U.S. since 1930 was designed and drawn by Dan Seckel in 1991, who also assisted in construction management.
Located in the historic mercantile core, the Carrousel District offers the strongest interaction with our re-energized community. Over the last twelve years Seckel has worked closely with developer Engwiller Properties, Inc. planning the district; studying such factors as pedestrian and vehicular movement, traffic patterns, utility infrastructure and geology of the area. To date the Architect has drawn and detailed historic restorations of over 30 buildings within the area and additional properties are targeted in the near future.
